Cover Comments: I really like the cover's design and color. Just love how the forest and the wolf are incorporated, and that one blood splotch just gives you shivers. (Haha! See what I did there?)

Wow. This is possibly one the best books I've read this year, and I've read quite a few so far. This is one of those heart-wrenching, tear-jerking books that leave you in an emotional wreck. Kind of. I actually read this in a car on a four-hour road trip with four other people, and I don't like being seen crying, so I had to HOLD IN THOSE TEARS. It hurt my throat. :(

Sam and Grace have developed a special relationship over the length of six long years that spans between two different species; one that's so fragile, it can be completely ruined with just one small change.

I loved the switch between the point of views. I'm a huge fan of these types of books, because sometimes, I just don't want to hear the entire story told by one person. It makes the novel more... round. It's more in-depth, and you feel into the book.

The werewolves in this book change with the seasons. When it's warm, they're human. When it's cold, they're wolves. This continues for some time, until the wolf eventually matures and remains a wolf forever. This seems to make Grace and Sam's separation inevitable. There is no known cure, and it looks like their love is doomed.

Maggie Stiefvater is just a wonderful writer. She incorporates poetry into the words, and also writes in a lyrical way. The relationship that developed between Grace and Sam didn't seem cheesy. It seemed very real, and complete, and one that you absolutely did not want to break!

I will definitely pick up Linger as soon as possible, and I'm sure Forever will be fantastic, too! If you haven't hopped onto the Wolves of Mercy Falls bandwagon, join now!

Personal Thoughts (What I thought as a teen reader, not a reviewer)
So... anybody know where I can get a sweet and gorgeous werewolf of my own? What other girl would not want a guy that writes poems, and is a great kisser, and takes you to candy shops? Just a little Sam obsession there.

First Line:
"I remember lying in the snow, a small red spot of warm going cold, surrounded by wolves."

Favorite/Teaser Quotes:
"What do you eat?"
"Baby bunnies." She narrowed her eyes, so I grinned and said, "Adult bunnies, too. I'm an equal-opportunity bunny-eater."

"So, Grace, how's school?" I asked myself.
Dad nodded, eyes on the baby koala now struggling in the guest's arms.
"Oh, it's fine," I continued, and Dad made a mumbling noise of agreement. I added, "Nothing special, aside from the load of pandas they brought in, and the teachers abandoning us to cannibalistic savages-" I paused to see if I'd caught his attention yet, then pressed on. "The whole building caught fire, then I failed drama, and then sex, sex, sex."
Dad's eyes abruptly focused, and he turned to me and frowned. "What did you say they were teaching you in school?"

I'd found heaven and grabbed it as tightly as I could, but it was unraveling, an insubstantial thread sliding between my fingers, too fine to hold.

"How long?"
His smile was amazingly sweet. "The longest."
For ever?"
Sam's lips smiled, but above his grin, his yellow eyes turned sad, as if he knew it was a lie. "Longer."

I said uselessly, "Sam, don't go."
Sam cupped my face in his hands and looked me in the eyes. His eyes were yellow, sad, wolf, mine. "These stay the same. Remember that when you look at me. Remember it's me. Please."
"Please don't go."

Goodreads Synopsis:
the cold.
Grace has spent years watching the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—watches back. He feels deeply familiar to her, but she doesn't know why.

the heat.
Sam has lived two lives. As a wolf, he keeps the silent company of the girl he loves. And then, for a short time each year, he is human, never daring to talk to Grace...until now.

the shiver.
For Grace and Sam, love has always been kept at a distance. But once it's spoken, it cannot be denied. Sam must fight to stay human—and Grace must fight to keep him—even if it means taking on the scars of the past, the fragility of the present, and the impossibility of the future.
