Please give a warm welcome to Mary Ting, the author of Crossroads!
Hello everyone!!! Dancing right now!!! So excited to meet you all!!!3LB: I love your enthusiasm. :) Who or what inspired you to write? Do you have any role models, whether in writing or life in general?
I started writing Crossroads because it was a way for me to heal the loss of my grandmother. As far as role models, all authors inspire me. After I started writing, I found a new profound respect for authors.3LB: I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. But I feel pretty awesome that our names are the same. Go Lucias! Why don't you tell us a bit about your novel Crossroads. What inspired you to write it?
Crossroads is like a second Heaven, a place between Heaven and Earth. It is3LB: Ah, another dreamer. I wish I had such inspirational dreams. Then maybe I could write a book, too. Was there any scene or part in Crossroads that was difficult to write? If so, how did you get through writing it?
where the souls of humans in comas or near death experiences may wander. Crossroads is where Michael and Claudia meet for the very first time so I wanted to name the book after where it all began. My book is based on my dream I had in high school. I was inspired by Stephenie Meyer because Twilight was based on her dream as well.
The funeral scene was difficult to write because they were real experiences. I cried when I wrote. The memories of them came back and it felt like I was burying them over again. I say “they” because there are two.
3LB: I feel that names hold meaning and importance to characters. How do you come up with or decide on the names for your characters? Do they hold meaning?
Many people like Davin, which I’m really happy about because his character was inspired by my friend who passed away. He was very likable and was a best friend to all his friends. Patty is my friend from church. She is exactly how I described her, social butterfly who knows everything about her friends and fashion. I named Claudia after a student I once had many years ago. I can still picture her face, just like an angel. When I was much younger, I had a crush on a boy named Michael, but his character is based off my husband, protective, romantic, and silly at times. No… he doesn’t have wings…lol!!
3LB: So many cool inspirations that went into your book. I wonder if these people know that they're part of it. :) What plans do you have for the future?
I’m currently working on book 2. I hope to make it a trilogy.
3LB: If you could have any supernatural ability, what would it be, and why?
3LB: Yes, definitely! And it would be a million times better if a French boy was included. ;) What three people/characters would you love to meet? (They can be fictional, dead, or real and very much alive!)
I would love to meet Oprah, Edward Cullen, and Michael from Crossroads.
3LB: Meeting your own character... is that cheating? Haha. Do you have any tips or advice for aspiring writers?
Get all your thoughts down before you forget. Ask friends to read your draft and get feedbacks. But most importantly, believe that you can!
3LB: Tell us five interesting things about yourself.
- I’m married with two children, a dog, and two hamsters.
- I am a kindergarten teacher.
- I enjoy oil painting when I have time.
- I also make jewelries. My friends and I started http://www.inspiredbytwilight.com/
- Giant Chewy Sweet Tart candy is my favorite.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I took on a journey not knowing how rewarding it would be for me. I’ve meet so many wonderful people from all over the world through facebook, goodreads and blog sites. I’ve made everlasting friendship where friendship knows no boundaries. And I have to thank my grandmother who continues to watch over me from Heaven.
For the readers, fly with me through this incredible journey. Fall in love with the characters as much as I did and make Crossroads your place to be. Thank you for your support!

Claudia Emerson has a good friend who shares the same first name and last name. That friend unfortunately dies in a tragic accident during homecoming dance. Claudia is distraught at the loss of her friend, but is even more disturbed by her dreams, which seem to take her to another place called Crossroads. Unknown to her, Crossroads is like a second heaven, a place between heaven and earth. It is where the souls of humans in comas or near death experiences may wander. Where, Claudia meets Michael, a nephilim, a half angel, half human, whom she often meets in her dreams. It turns out that this isn’t her first visit to Crossroads, which is an enigma for no human can ever travel there until Claudia.
Now the fallen and demons are after her, suspecting she must be special and it is up to Michael and the other nephilims to protect her. Her dream becomes a nightmare as more secrets are revealed, about who she really is, and the true identities of the people she loves most. Can Michael fight his growing feelings for Claudia and protect her as a guardian angel should?
